I was shocked over the weekend when a relative of mine shocked me at the fees that he pays for his gym membership. I was asking him how much the gym really benefits him and he basically told me that he goes to the gym about three times a week. I basically asked him what types of things that the gym has that he couldn't do at home and he went on telling me about the treadmill, track, and bench press machine.

I began to ask him if he would like to save money on his gym membership. Immediately he said "yes". Well I explained if he just used the sidewalk, did push ups, sit ups, and jumping jacks at home, that he would not even need a gym membership. He then basically thought about it for a second and then shrugged his shoulders and changed the subject.

Many people are not capable of seeing the benefits of the things around them that can actually help them save money in their lives. Often when they hear of real money savings ideas, they just shrug them off and go on with life never considering just how much it will cost them through the years. In his case he could have saved over $1200 a year simply by using the simple things around him to workout with.
