How to Save Money on a Wedding

_________________________________________________________________________________

It's your special day and you want to make it as nice as you possibly can.  Unfortunately not everybody was born with millions of dollars in their pockets and silver spoons in their mouths.   So for the vast majority of us, we have to plan our weddings where they will be nice, but also so that we can save money.   Here are some excellent tips that can help you have an inexpensive wedding, but still have it classy and high quality.

The first that that you will want to do is forget about having a wedding at a fancy setting.  If you have access to a nice back yard, a nice city park, or a nature preserve, most of these things are incredibly cheap and can offer an excellent venue to have a wedding.   I like to emphasize to try to have in the back yard of your home or a family member's house because if there is inclement weather you will be able to move from the outdoors to the indoors.   Homes are “free” for weddings, and you will be instantly saving money by giving up paying for locations and churches.

Be sure that you learn how to decorate yourself.  Learn how to tie bows and make decorations out of different materials.  Inexpensive fresh flowers can be bought at large department stores and can be added to bows and other decorations.   At the reception decorations like tea light candles are incredibly cheap and in low light are very nice looking.

Save money on the wedding dress.  Try to find one 2nd hand if possible.  If you can't do that, try to find a very inexpensive one somewhere.  Sometimes relatives will have wedding dresses that they have saved and are happy to let you wear them.

Warehouse clubs are a blessing for reception food.  Often they sell very inexpensive trays of food and can even make pasta.  If you want more savings, go to the large portion frozen section and you can buy large frozen dinners that are heat and serve.   If you are bold enough, the cheapest method is to make everything from scratch.  I've served 50 people from scratch a beef lasagne and the cost was $60 with fresh bread sticks and all the ingredients.  Even simple finger foods like cubes of cheese, rolled meats, and melons that you can prepare yourself can seriously save money.

Keep the entertainment simple.  Even a nice classical stereo playing music is better than nothing.   The food and people talking really is what keeps people entertained anyway.  I've been to so many weddings that had such loud live entertainment that it dominated the entire wedding.  No need to hire a DJ or anything.  With today's CD players and MP3 players, you can have hours of music playing during your reception.  Skipping the live entertainment is a great money saver!

We all want our weddings to be loaded with great memories.  Ask a more “technical” person if they can snap photos for the wedding.  Be sure to have good poses with all the family members that you are close to.  With today's super high powered digital cameras, photographs are incredibly clear and accurate.  To save on the cost of professional photos during your wedding, will be sure to keep your pocketbook full.

Using some of these tips and keeping frugality in mind are a sure way to save money on your wedding.    For most people your wedding is about the recognition of your union, and is happy if the food is good.
