Absolutely the first thing that you want to be sure of is not to ever pay retail price for anything that you buy from any home improvement store. The internet is your friend and highly competitive to many retailers. They constantly are doing battle online and offer all types of coupon deals to customers. One of the best things that I have ever discovered are online discount sites. These sites contain numerous retailers including home improvement stores. Basically they usually give you a good percentage off any purchase you make above and beyond any coupon codes that you may have. My favorite one is Big Crumbs. It's free to join, simple to use, and I've been a member for several years now. You can buy stuff from home improvement store using Big Crumbs as a portal getting you a discount. It's my favorite cheapskate site that I encourage everybody to join! Once you have your home improvement materials bought at discount, you'll want to start using the internet to figure out the best possible ways to fix what you need. Use online forums and help guides to help you repair anything in your home. If you are doing large home improvements often these forums are a great place to get advice on the job that you face. If you have any questions, just simply type the question into a search engine. The internet is an excellent source for just about any question that you may have when repairing your home or doing any types of improvements. If you must hire a contractor you'll want to be sure to shop around. Get estimates from several contractors and make sure that they are bonded and have insurance. Check for reviews on the contractors online and see what other people have to say about them. Always trust your gut and go with a contractor that you feel most comfortable with. Many times if you tell a contractor that you are going to be getting "a few estimates", they will give you their best price knowing that there will be competition. This in the long run can save money for you because you'll have the best price to compare from multiple contractors for your home improvement project. Now that you have the best price possible on your materials that you need and completely free advice from the internet, you should be able to enjoy a frugal home improvement or repair on your home.
