How to Be More Green and Help the Environment
We all have an effect on the world we live in. A lot of the byproducts of our lives are energy consumption (fuels burned), pollution, and garbage. Many of us would love to be more "green", and keep our impact on the Earth's environment to a minimum. Along with being great for our worldly environment, many of us would love to save money as well on our electric bill, oil bill, gas bill, or any other bill that is for energy consumption. 2. Lower your power consumption. Install CFL light bulbs, water on demand heaters, and spot heat and cool your home (with space heaters and portable air conditioners). Also consider line drying your clothes as much as possible. Not only will this save you money on electricity, but you will have less impact on the environment. 3. Consume items that are from recycled materials. There are usually indicators on the box or cans that you buy. 4. Try to buy things in containers that you can recycle easier. Things in cans, jars, boxes, and plastic bags are great. Things in Styrofoam or other odd materials are not. 5. Drive a fuel efficient car. This does not mean you need a hybrid, but something that gets great mpg. Also keep your car tuned up! We all know how expensive gasoline these days, so why not save yourself a lot of money and get better miles per gallon. Educate yourself on the methods of increasing your miles per gallon. 6. Donate used items and buy pre owned things so that you will not be constantly supporting businesses that are making new things. Many used and pre-owned things are perfectly fine. Manufacturing of new things creates a lot of pollution. This can also help save you money because pre-owed things are often much cheaper than buying new.
