Asking for a raise is often a challenging thing, and to actually get one can be even harder. What one must remember is that a pay raise is as difficult for many managers and bosses to give out as they are to ask for. Remember that everybody understands why you are asking for a pay raise as it is only human nature to get the most benefit out of your work hours. The boss has a duty to save the company the most money as possible. This is what creates a complicated paradigm when asking for a pay raise.

1. First you will need to gather all the information together of what you have done to improve your job performance and help that you have given your company. Gather all new responsibilities that you have taken on, along with all certifications or educational things that you have earned since you last discussion on pay. Also gather any information on how you have saved the company money.

2. You will need to purchase a good quality stock of paper to print a letter on. A pay raise request looks more serious on good quality paper.

3. Print a letter addressed to the person who is in charge of pay. State how long it has been since your pay has been discussed. Let them know that your performance has improved, and that your interest is always to make or serve your company with either making it money, saving it money, or doing the best job possible to make it more efficient.

4. State all the new responsibilities you have taken up over a certain period of time.

5. State all of your future goals of how to improve yourself or your company. Let them know that you are ready for new challenges & tasks and that your pay raise will be worth it.

6. Proof read, spell, and grammar check your letter for a pay raise!

TIPS:

1. Always ask for a raise in writing so that your boss or manager will not be hit with a sudden raise issue in the middle of a hectic day.
2. Pay raises are most successful when asked through the year.
3. Make sure your pay raise is within reason, and not for too much or too little. If you are a good worker, a salary or wage slightly higher than you are making is a great target.
